Get fired up for an unforgettable evening of science, art, and community at our July STEAM Social, Burning to Learn, featuring the vital work of the Southern Oregon Forest Restoration Collaborative (SOFRC). This special summer edition dives into the science of wildfire, the power of art, and the importance of education during an era of climate change and increasing fire risk.
Explore the dynamic forces that drive wildfires — topography, weather, and fuel — in our Blaze & Brush watercolor workshop, where you’ll create a foldable “fire triangle” filled with your own notes and illustrations. Build your own DIY air filter with Ashland Fire & Rescue and learn how to protect your home and health during wildfire season. Don’t miss the engaging presentation and Q&A with SOFRC's Amelia Liberatore and Terry Fairbanks, including a screening of the inspiring FireBright video and student-led work in the field. Families can enjoy looping short films, self-guided tree ID activities, and creative learning spaces for all ages.
This STEAM Social also supports the Fire Education for All campaign, a community fundraiser to replace critical funding lost during recent federal cuts. In lieu of our usual material fees, we’re inviting attendees to donate to the Fire Education for All campaign – supporting Southern Oregon Forest Restoration Collaborative (SOFRC), Lomakatsi, and ScienceWorks in providing fire ecology and ITEK education for local K-12 students.
Come ready to learn, create, and connect in this meaningful multigenerational STEAM celebration — and help spark a future of fire-safe communities!
